(in) a world not unlike your own
the latest burnouts album is an obsession with truth. with all denial aside, there must be a way to move forward unaffecting and crushing things in your path. if something refuses to be right, its wrong. its another hand in hand journey through my end of the knee deep gray matter. a happier time maybe, but that falls way short of skinny dipping. its a continuation of free thought. point a remains point a unaffected by point b, but if point b is down its all good. its almost liberating to be perpetually slightly off .

post show post traumatic ultimate mundane
this album was born out of necessity. a return to self identification in a way that seems almost desperate. i found myself suspended in almost anti gravity of new ideas. the lack of over-thought put into these songs add to their fragility. as with all previous recordings they certainly lack perfection, but never aspired to it. i knew that, and hopefully as soon, the listener will know that. its trying to cope with getting too much of what you want, or what you thought you wanted. loneliness is inevitable when you’re all alone.

a lull in void
this album was created with the will power of creativity more so than any other. total liberation of internal conflict, it was purely fantasy that was the antagonist. in a blood pact with other impurists i sought to shine out the most jagged oblong piece of beauty. there is no conscience on this album. only the most vapid barely existent ideas, that never went beyond that. but even in that, provoking one’s self to the extreme. days were endless nights were endless afternoons were endless, and there was some love even though everything is still evil.

you won’t know until you find out
the burnouts as a band begins to make some sense and ever interpret master material. there was a demand for supply in way that only love could have resolved. from the tender benders to the all out flips this is the one that is truly all over the place, and also is most true in its diary. its an attempt to push limits endlessly in the most constrained way possible. “tape me being crazy” yields nothing more than a stray hoot or a holler, but “tape me when i’m ready” can sometimes be just as scary. also features the debut of katie burnout backing me up on some of the most tender real, true burnouts songs.

transparent mirror?
the first real and proper 4 track album by the burnouts. thunderstruck a bit by destruction, random cirumstance, and closure. it speaks for itself really. it has its own honesty and lacks the lack of attention previous albums thrived upon. songs are focused and about tangible things as obscure as they may be. also it should happen to be that some amazing people were invited into my world to make my dream seem more sound. its a mastery of experimentation on a personal level. i can even still relate in a certain way.

its not all hot chocolate
the album that very nearly never was and still isn’t. another scrambled mess that serves more as a companion piece to my life at the time and a compilation of all of that, as opposed to a well thought out trip around the block. more about life impressions and futility and scooby doo. not to take anything away from it. some people burn their diaries. i listen to mine over and over again.

the penis and vagina syndrome
this is the album where things start coming together in some senses, though yet another mash up of multiple genre personalities. there is some solid ground to stand on here, before it turns to jello and then cement. the druggy pervades, as opposed to late night jam sessions, most were mid afternoon vacations from responsibility and the perpetual awe of reality. things were indeed really happening but rarely felt as if they were. on purpose one might suppose. but trying to meet one’s self on a greater level is not an easy task or one that was taken lightly. there was also some interpersonal heart breaking. my friend caitlain also came around to lend her vocals to some songs that were written specifically for her to sing. what a time it was amongst other things. more death too. there are also some of the first traces of tough psychedelia which i love so deeply.

you’ve got more than you think you do
the first proper cassette four track album. equal parts learning the ropes, documenting the mash up of life audiologically. there is no forced wit or wisdom, just a steady trickle from the faucet of the mind. i can’t sing, i can’t play instruments, but impulsively do it anyways. it was often believed at the time that no one would ever hear these recordings, so many jokes remain inside between me and the songs themselves. there was also some death involved which turns life upside down, but not without purpose. the overall philosophy was trying to generate positivity by forcing a positive attitude. i can’t remember if it worked or not

the whole sad story
the next burnouts album continues on the same winding road as lei’d in hawaii with a splash more attention to overall quality. love, heartbreak, and insecurity are the main subjects here interspersed with general insanity and goofiness. its a delicate balance which represented the actual perception of reality of the time. fun in the sun mixed with obvious self doubt and longing.

i got lei’d in hawaii
the very first burnouts album released some ten years ago in the infancy of cozy home records. sub par sound quality due to the tedious process of over dubbing using two tape decks and a radio shack mixer. originally it was a stab at “home pop” with a twist, pleasant sounding songs with abrasive dark messages, or abrasive dark songs with pleasant sounding messages. either way something is lost in the translation and what remains is a unique look at love, drugs, and other things that seemed important at the time. can’t forget “premiering” these songs weekly at tim’s place. this was before cozy home was formally communal and we would all get together and play our songs for each other. not hard to see how things came to be.
